| Daewoo, known for reliability and value for money, has taken a step towards the market leaders with Kalos. A light body means less assured roadholding compared to some rivals, but it feels quite agile and is confident enough at moderate speeds. Controls are easy to use with well laid out buttons and dials. 1.2 and 1.4 litre petrol engines are available, the 1.2 lacks pulling power but the responsive steering and brakes make it perfect for driving around town, although the little Kalos can struggle up hills with heavy load or more than two adults. The 1.4 8v is nippy, and the 1.4 16v feels quite lively, but both run out of power when pushed hard, so the 16v is really not worth the extra money. Generous standard equipment on SE models includes ABS, power steering and airbags. The SX adds a CD player, electric sunroof and extra comfort features. |
